Resource Room

Resource Room

The Institute of Academics & Technology is unique in that it is the only Choice School in Milwaukee to offer in-school Special Education and Resource Room services. We have seen tremendous progress with our students and these programs, which makes ITA not only advanced in technology but also advanced in differentiated student education.

The Resource Room is a school-based pullout program for students experiencing difficulties in the regular classroom in Language Arts and/or Math. Students are pulled out on an individual or small group basis. Students may be referred by the classroom teacher or parent for possible Resource Room support. When the classroom teacher identifies the students who are experiencing significant difficulties in one or more areas in the regular classroom setting, a referral for a diagnostic assessment may be made. The Resource Room is primarily designed to provide assistance to students functioning one-third behind their current grade placement according to the results on the standardized tests administered individually by the Special Education Facilitator. An Individual Student Plan is then developed that is reflective of each student’s needs in the Resource Room and the regular classroom. Modifications and accommodations provided in the Resource Room setting are then provided in the regular classroom where it is possible.
